Wetlet, 20 April
About 350 toddy palm trees were burnt to ashes in a forest fire in Wetlet Township, Sagaing Region, according to U Aye Myint, Assistant Director of the Fire Services Department.
The bushfire broke out near Khawtaw Village, Wetlet Township at about 7:45 p.m. on 18 April. Upon receiving information about the bushfire, aroun 30 firefighters led by Chairman of the township management committee U Soe Hlaing Maung together with policemen and local people put out the blaze with the use of two fireengines and a water tanker three hours later.
The fire destroyed nearly 350 toddy palm trees but no casualties were reported in the incident.—Moe Thauk (Shwebo)
