Forest Department under Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation is initiating various ways, including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS), to put down illegal logging and trading of forest products in collaboration with the people in the country.

The combined team seized a total of 26.45 tons of illegal timber, including 6.17 tons of teak, 0.58 tons of hardwood and 19.69 tons of other types of timber, in the country from August 5 to 11 this year, according to the statistics sent by Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, the State and Regional Forest Departments.

In addition, five culprits were arrested in connection with the cases along with three vehicles and machines, according to the Forest Department.—MNA
