To put down illegal logging and trading of forest products, various ways including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS) are being initiated by Forest Department under Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation in cooperation with the people.
From August 19 to 25 this year, the combined team seized a total of 37.87 tons of illegal timber including 26.11 tons of teak, 9.38 tons of hardwood and 2.37 tons of other types of timbers in the country, according to the statistics sent by the Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, State and Regional Forest Departments.
In addition, an offender was apprehended in connection with the cases along with four vehicles and machine. Among the seizures, 19.80 tons of unattended illegal teak were seized in the vicinity of Paukbintha Monastery in Lewe Township of Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, according to the Forest Department.—MNA
