Forest Department under Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation is initiating various ways including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS) to put down illegal logging and trading of forest products in cooperation with the people in the country.

The combined team seized a total of 46.35 tons of illegal timber including 10.63 tons of teak, 26.96 tons of hardwood and 8.75 tons of other types of timbers in the country from August 12 to 18 this year, according to the statistics sent by Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, the State and Regional Forest Departments.

In addition, a total of 21 offenders were nabbed in connection with the cases along with nine vehicles and machines, according to the Forest Department.—MNA
