The opening ceremony of the 71st state level Pa-O national day festival was held in the village of Kyar Pan in Thaton township, Mon state yesterday afternoon.

First, Mahasaddhamma Jotikadhaja Bhadanta Sanda Wuntha, the head monk at Khe Mouk Singapore monastery in Belin town, Mon State Pa-O Ethnic Affairs Minister Nan San Wint Khaing, Mon State Social Affairs minister Dr Htein Lin, and Mon State Agricultural and Transportation minister U Tun Htay cut a ceremonial ribbon to unveil the arch of the festival.

Then, the state ministers made some remarks in commemoration of Pa-O National Day. After that, Khun Poe Saung, the chairman of the organizing committee on the festival explained the reasons for holding the festival in Thaton town. Then, traditional dances were performed to the audience.

The state level Pa-O National Day festival will be held from March 5 to 8, along with traditional dance competitions, stage shows, exhibitions and foods served free of charge.—Thet Oo (Thaton)
