With the aims of promoting fish resources and fish production, creating job opportunities for local people and preventing the extinction of fish species, the Region Department of Fisheries held a fish releasing ceremony at the Myinkin Port on the bank of Irrawaddy River in Magway Township, Magway Region this morning.
Chief Minister of Magway Region government U Tint Lwin, regional ministers, departmental heads and students attended the event and released 400,000 fingerlings including 200000 barbus fish, 150,000 carps, 50000 saffron carps into Irrawaddy River.
Magway region Department of Fisheries is conducting awareness on increasing fishery resources, opening fish hatchery camps in Taungdwingyi and Pwint Phyu townships for sustainable development of fish species and releasing fish species into dams, lakes, rivers and creeks annually to have sufficiency of fish and boosting socio-economic of rural people. Magway Region has earmarked to release one million of fish species into dams, lakes, rivers and creeks in this fiscal year, according to the Region Department of Fisheries.—Aung Ko(Hpan kha Mye)
