METEOROLOGIST U Win Naing forecast heavy rainfall in the southern parts of Myanmar due to the effects of extraordinary weather conditions from the eastern and western seas.
Due to a possible low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal in four days (96 hours) from 23 to 27 September, and the remnants of Super Cyclone Ragasa with expected landfall in China on or after 25 September, heavy rainfall may happen across Myanmar, especially Ayeyawady, Yangon, Bago regions, Kayin, Mon states and Taninthayi Region in four days, he said.
Other forecasts include wind speeds of 20 to 30 miles per hour, and waves of four to eight feet, resulting in floods in Yangon Region, the lower parts of Yangon and fields in Ayeyawady.
In addition, heavy rains in the mountainous areas may cause landslides in Bago Region, and heavy rains and flash floods in Mawlamyine, Ye in Mon State and Taninthayi areas daily, he added. — MT/ZN
