Mandalay City Development Committee (MCDC) will carry out surprise checks on foods that are being sold in the markets to ensure there are no hazardous dyes in the food.

The surprise inspections run by a combined team comprising officials from MCDC’s Market and SlaughterHouse Department and Food and Drug Administration Department (FDA) will cover the Nanshay market, Nyaungpin market, Mingala temporary market, Takundaing market and other markets in the region.

This move is to check unsafe dyes in food commodities (bamboo shoots, fish paste, dried fish, chilli powder) across over 40 markets in the city. If the foods are identified as containing harmful dyes, they will be seized and destroyed.
