Union Minister for In­formation U Maung Maung Ohn conducted a site visit yesterday to inspect the operations at the Photo­litho Printing Press located on Ngahtetgyi Pagoda Road in Bahan Township, Yangon.

 

During the visit, U Maung Maung Ohn reviewed the print­ing and bookbinding processes within the factory. He also ob­served the ongoing renovations aimed at converting certain ar­eas into a classroom, a gymna­sium, and a storage room.

 

Following the inspection, the factory’s manager pro­vided a detailed report on the current operations, which was supplemented by additional explanations from U Ko Ko Naing, Director-General of the Department of Printing and Publishing.

 

In his discussions, the Un­ion minister emphasized the importance of valuing and prior­itizing books and literature. He highlighted that the department continues to print and distribute books and publications from ex­ternal sources and stressed the need to maintain timely produc­tion and high quality. He also urged the factory staff to ensure the durability of equipment and the proper management of ma­terials, as well as to collaborate effectively in support of national development projects.

 

The factory, established in 1951, was purchased by the Central Printing House for K1,020,180. It began oper­ations as the Central Press’s Photolitho Division in 1954, with over 90 employees. In March 1970, the Printing and Pub­lishing Corporation, including the Photolitho Printing Press was formed. In 1984, with sup­port from Japan’s JICA, the factory initiated a project for printing school textbooks and notebooks, funded with K690 million. — MNA/KZL
