Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement U Soe Kyi met New York-based Emergency Directors Group (EDG) of UN agencies and humanitarian agencies at the ministry in Nay Pyi taw yesterday morning.
The meeting focused on the need of humanitarian aid in Myanmar, formation of the National Disaster Management Committee (NDMC), cooperation with UN organizations and international NGOs in responding to Cyclone Mocha, producing entry visas and extension of visas for foreign staff of international organizations, the prospect of signing the letter of agreement between the ministry and OCHA and enhancing the capacity of staff.
The director-general of the Department of Social Welfare, the director-general of the Department of Disaster Management, and delegation members of EDG were also present at the meeting. — MNA/TRKM
