MYANMAR’S national team secured a gold medal in the team billiards event at the XXXIII SEA Games, hosted by Thailand, on 14 December.
In the final, Myanmar faced Singapore and won the match 3-1. The victory came against Singapore’s team, led by renowned player Peter Gilchrist, marking Myanmar’s first gold medal in billiards at a Thailand-hosted SEA Games.
Myanmar won the first mini-match 100-46 but lost the second 100-68, making the remaining matches crucial. The team then claimed victories in the third mini-match 100-35 and the fourth 102-45, securing a well-deserved gold medal. The gold-winning Myanmar team included U Pauk Sa, Nay Thway Oo and Aung Htay.
With all billiards events concluded, Myanmar earned one gold and one silver medal across the two event categories. The gold came from the team competition, while the silver was won by U Pauk Sa in the individual event. — Ko Nyi Lay/KZL
