Of international travellers visiting Myanmar, there are young backpackers from Western Europe, according to travel operators.
These young foreign tourists are taking adventurous solo trips with a backpack alone, and just a few come to visit the country by connecting with travel agencies.
“We can say the majority of foreigners visiting our country are Thai and Chinese, according to visitor arrival statistics. Among the rest, especially from Western Europe, just a few numbers came via tour packages provided by travel agencies. Still, there are young people from the West who want to take adventurous trips by carrying just a backpack,” said an official from the Myanmar Tourism Federation.
Over the last two months, from December 2023 to January 2024, many Russians visited the country by connecting with travel companies.
Currently, the number of local tourists has yet to reach the level gained before COVID-19. However, it has started to bounce back compared to past years, and travelling to beaches and prominent destinations has increased. — Thit Taw/ZS
