According to the Sagaing Region government, the Nampanga small-scale hydropower project, capable of generating 34.68 million kWh of electricity annually, is current­ly 56 per cent complete.

 

Situated on the Nampanga Creek near Nathakyaik village in Homalin Township, Sagaing Region, the project involves the construction of a concrete gravity dam. The embankment of the dam’s dimensions are ex­pected to be 473 feet in length and 114.8 feet in height. It will have a maximum water level of 80.38 feet, with an estimated annual water influx of 110,000 acre-feet.

 

Scheduled for completion in the 2024-2025 financial year, the dam, once operational, will provide electricity to villag­es and MSME businesses in Homalin Township. — ASH/MKKS
