To ensure the safety of teachers and students, more four schools have been temporarily closed on July 25 due to floodwaters from Ngawan River in Thabaung Township of Ayeyarwady Region.

A total of 37 schools have been temporarily closed in the Township since July 22 as water level in Ngawan River rises, according to the Township Education officer’s office.

37 schools in Thabaung Township are arranged to close until August 1, and the students from the closed schools will be compensated for the missed lessons and will be given overtime to study their lessons every Sunday when the floodwater recedes.

But no casualties are reported in the floods so far, according to Daw Khin Thet Naing, staff officer of the Township Education officer’s office —Myo Zaw Thein (IPRD)
