Five schools that were temporarily closed due to the floodwaters from the Irrawaddy River are reopened on July 29 in Pwintbyu Township of Magway Region as water level in the Irrawaddy River was receded, according to the Township Education officer’s office.
Some inundated schools in Pwintbyu Township are reopened as water level in Irrawaddy River has been receded since July 25. A total of 30 schools in Pwintbyu Township were closed as water level in the Irrawaddy River has risen. Out of the closed schools, eight schools have been reopened since July 25. The remaining schools in the Township will be reopened when the floodwaters decrease.
“Students from the closed schools will be compensated for the missed lessons and will be given additional times to study their lessons on holidays," said U Zaw Win Khaing, deputy staff officer of the Township Education Officer’s office. — Hlaing Win Lay (Pwintbyu Mye)
