The China Foundation for Peace and Development (CFPD) and the Myanmar Chinese Coopera­tion and Communication Centre donated sports equipment to six basic education schools in Yan­gon Region yesterday as part of the ‘Silk Road from the Heart: Care for the Future’ programme.

 

This is the fourth donation, and the ceremony was held at the Chinese Cultural Centre in Yangon on 2 August. During the event, Deputy General Secretary of the CFPD Mr Liu Zhenzhong, Counsellor of the Chinese Em­bassy to Myanmar Ms Qiao Li, Chief Editor of Pauk Phaw Mag­azine U Ye Naing Soe, Deputy Director of the Yangon Region Basic Education Department Daw Khin Than Oo, and Deputy Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Education U Kyaw Htoo Aung, delivered opening remarks.

 

Mr Liu Zhenzhong stated, “A total of 19 schools have been developed under the ‘Friends of the Silk Road’ programme. I be­lieve that students from these friendship schools will contribute significantly to China-Myanmar people-to-people diplomacy. We have initiated many projects in Myanmar to strengthen peo­ple-to-people ties, especially in healthcare, medical treatment, and education, investing over 20 million yuan.

 

“We are collaborating with the Nay Oak Foundation and the Myanmar Chinese Cooperation and Communication Centre on various child health projects, li­brary donations under the ‘Books from the Silk Road’ initiative, and electrification projects in north­ern Myanmar.”

 

This donation, part of the ‘Silk Road from the Heart: Care for the Future’ programme, ben­efits six basic education schools in the Yangon Region: No 2 Basic Education High School Latha, No 13 Post Primary School Mayan­gon, No 8 Middle School Branch Dagon Seikkan, No 18 Basic Pri­mary School Hlinethaya, Basic Middle School (Htawwat) Than­lyin, No 18 Middle School Branch Thakayta, and Yangon University of Foreign Languages (YUFL).

 

Ms Qiao Li, Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy to Myanmar, handed over the sports equip­ment, valued at K30 million, to the schools. The heads of the re­cipient schools expressed their gratitude for the donation. Sen­ior President of Myanmar China Cooperation Centre U Thit Sa (aka) Mr Li Bo Bo also present­ed honorary certificates to the volunteers from YUFL.

 

The year 2024 marks a sig­nificant period for China-ASEAN cultural exchange, and this event aims to promote collaboration be­tween the two countries in educa­tion and culture while supporting sustainable development.

 

Since its establishment in Myanmar in 2011, the CFPD has developed a total of 19 schools under the “Friends of the Silk Road” programme, along with two hospitals and 20 other pro­jects aimed at enhancing socioec­onomic conditions. — TWA/TMT
