The Kayin traditional white thread-tying festival was cel­ebrated in Maubin Township yesterday.

 

 

First, State Administration Council Member Mahn Nye­in Maung, leader of the SAC Central Advisory Body U Saw Tun Aung Myint and Region Chief Minister U Tin Maung Win played the frog drum to commence the festival.

 

Speaking at the event, the SAC member said ethnic unity is crucial today, and it can over­come the challenges that affect sovereignty, peace and tran­quillity. The white thread-tying festival is a cultural heritage of the entire Kayin people, and they are responsible for pre­serving the tradition.

 

The leader of the SAC Cen­tral Advisory Body and the re­gion chief minister then made remarks and enjoyed the Kayin traditional dance performance.

 

Maubin Township Kayin Literature and Culture Associ­ation Patron Sayadaw Bhadd­anta Nandamala also made the speech, and Dr Nant Thidar Kyaw read out the history of the festival.

 

After the event, SAC Mem­ber Mahn Nyein Maung and officials met members of Kayin Literature and Culture Associ­ations from 26 townships and university students and made proper instructions. — Region IPRD/KTZH
