BUDDHISTS regard the full moon day of Wagoung as an auspicious day of Metta (lov­ing-kindness) (Metta Akha Taw Day). Being Wagoung full moon day, Metta Akha Taw Day ceremonies were held at the Shwedagon Pagoda and Thiri Mingala Kaba Aye Pagoda in Yangon yesterday.

 

Organized by the Shweda­gon Pagoda Board of Trustees, events such as offering dawn meal to the pagoda and the cer­emony of dispersing Metta were held at the designated places of the pagoda platform.

 

The Yangon Region chief minister and party, pagoda board of trustees and religious organizations participated in the conveyance of flower stu­pas made of 84,000 flowers. They went round the pagoda by a clockwise procession. They then donated flower stupas at four prayer halls respectively.

 

They also observed the Sabbath from Ovadacariya of the pagoda board of trustees Chairman of the Yangon Re­gion Sangha Nayaka Committee Presiding Sayadaw of Tipitaka Linkara Monastery of Thakayta Aggamaha Pandia Aggamaha Saddhammajotikadhaja Agga maha Ganthavacaka Pandita Dwipitakadhara Dr Bhaddanta Agga Sami.

 

They offered donations to Sayadaws and shared their merits.

 

Likewise, the pagoda board of trustees of the Thiri Minga­la Kaba Aye Pagoda organized Metta Akha Taw Day at the pa­goda. Religious organizations recited Gatha, and shared merits gained. — Zaw Min Latt (MNA)/KTZH
