The inspection team, led by U Kyaw Myint, Member of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC), yesterday inspected Myo Ma Police Lock-ups and Court Detention Centres in Htantabin Township, Yangon Region, in accordance with Sections 43 and 44 of the Commission Law.
The inspection team met detainees while inspecting the police lock-up and court detention centre and enquired about the living and dining conditions of detainees during the remand period, whether detainees had been subjected to torture during the investigation, whether they were allowed to meet their families, and their conditions for food and drink during court appearances. The team also inspected the cleanliness of the lock-ups, including the use of sewage systems, and examined whether the detainees had access to meetings with lawyers.
MNHRC will inform the relevant department of its findings and recommendations for necessary actions under the MNHRC law. — MNHRC
