Mongyawng, 22 August
Due to torrential downpours in Mongyawng Township of eastern Shan State, a bridge on the Khoke-Parman-Wanggoung-Wangtaung road linking the Datlon Pagoda was collapsed this morning, causing a loss of approximately K 3 million. But no casualties are reported in the incident so far.
A total of 27 people from the Township Disaster Management Department led by U Soe Thet Swe, Chairman of the Township Administration Body and Major Zaw Min Swe, member-1 of the Township Administration Body looked round the collapsed bridge and temporarily closed the road to ensure the safety people and vehicles.
In order to avoid traffic interruption, officials designed the Khoke-Yebawhaung-Parman-Wanggaung-Wangtaung road, Khoke-Yamkham-Wamphyo-Parman-Wanggaung-Wang taung road and Khoke-Monlike-Wangtaung-Wanggaung-Paman road to be used as detour routes rather than Khoke-Parman-Wanggaung-Wangtaung road.
The bridge which is 15 ft. in length, 15 ft. in width and 6 ft. in height was constructed in 2003-2004 fiscal year on a self-help basis. Now, efforts are being made to build the bridge measuring 25 ft. long, 20 ft. wide and 7 ft. height at the site as soon as possible.—Township IPRD
