Tachilek, 22 August

Due to torrential downpours on August 20 to 21 in Tachilek Township of eastern Shan Stte, Bogyoke Road and low-lying wards of Tachilek city were submerged starting from the morning of August 22.

The water level of Maesai Creek in Tachilek Towship has reached 437 centimeters on August 1 to 4 and exceeded 390 centimeters of its danger level. Similarly, the second floods occurred on August 13 to 17 in Tachilek Township and the water level of Maesai Creek has reached 471 cm. In addition, the water level of Maesai Creek has reached 390 cm at 11:00 am on August 22 due to heavy rain and Bogyoke Street and houses in Puntun, Tarlaw, Makahokham, Waunggaung, Sansai(B), Sansai(A) and  Mekhaung wards in Tachilek city were submerged.

Under the supervision of the Township and District Disaster Management Committee, volunteers including ward Administrators, Departmental staff, Fire Brigade, members of Red-Cross Society, members of social organizations and well-wishers evacuated local people to safer places and provided them with necessary assistance.—Kyaw Zayyar Linn (IPRD)
