In preparation for the 2024 National Sports Festival, the Yangon Region-level Games will be held from 16 to 24 September, featuring competitions in 24 different sports.

The Yangon Regional Sports and Physical Education Committee, consisting of 32 members, was established on 5 March to enhance sports activities in Yangon Region and achieve success in regional and state sports competitions. This formation coincides with the upcoming fifth National Sports Festival, which will take place in Nay Pyi Taw.

District-level competitions will be organized as part of the Yangon Region National Sports Festival, from which athletes will be selected and trained in camps starting in October.

The sports festival will include 25 sports disciplines, such as athletics, swimming, football, chess, table tennis, and sitting volleyball. The first National Sports Festival was held in 1992, followed by the second in 1994 and the third in 1997, all in Yangon. The fourth National Sports Festival was held in Nay Pyi Taw in 2015. — TWA/MKKS
