Forest Department under Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation is initiating various ways, including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS), to put down illegal logging and trading of forest products in collaboration with the people in the country.

 

The combined team seized a total of 37.04 tons of illegal timber, including 29.42 tons of teak, 3.54 tons of hardwood and 4.07 tons of other types of timber in the country from August 26 to September 1 this year, according to the statistics sent by the Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, State and Regional Forest Departments.

 

In addition, 14 culprits were arrested in connection with the cases along with seven vehicles and machines, according to the Forest Department.—MNA
