A total of 459 acres of cowpea were planted in Pwintbyu Township, Magway Region this winter crop growing season, according to Pwintbyu Township Agriculture Department.
In Pwintbyu Township, 3232 acres of cowpea were targeted to be planted this year’s winter crop growing season. Local farmers started cultivation of cowpea in the first week of October this year to meet the target areas, and so far, 459 acres of cowpea have been sown.
In last year's winter crop season, 3,388 acres of cowpea were planted in Pwintbyu Township, exceeding 3,332 acres of the target area with a yield of 14.98 baskets per acre. In order to achieve high yield, officials from the Township Department of Agriculture is making field trips and sharing knowledge on agricultural techniques to local farmers.—Hlaing Win Lay
