UNION Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn, who is also Chairman of the Myanmar Libraries Development Coopera­tion Committee, and Kayah State Chief Minister U Zaw Myo Tin, who is also Patron of the State Libraries Supervisory Commit­tee, attended the campaign on developing libraries and raising reading habits at No 1 BEHS in Loikaw of Kayah State yesterday.

 

After the ceremonial proce­dures, the Union minister and party inspected the library and competitions.

 

The Union minister said ef­forts are being made to restore stability in Loikaw of Kayah State. The Head of State likes reading, and he also urges the people to read, publish and do­nate fine literature. The youths should also read. All should participate in rebuilding a more peaceful and prosperous future.

 

The state chief minister reported on efforts to promote reading habits despite the chal­lenges, and expressed gratitude to the officials of the Ministry of Information and artistes for com­ing to provide moral support to departmental officials and locals.

 

The Union minister do­nated 50 MRTV DTH receiv­ers and 120 MRTV T-2 settop boxes for the state government and regional military station. The Union minister and party also presented cash prizes to the winners in competitions.

 

In the evening, the Union minister and party arrived at Loikaw University and inspected the maintenance work on the main building, library, classroom and convocation hall of the uni­versity.

 

They also heard reports on damage and repair works of the university, duty resumption of faculty members, attendance of students and contacts with dis­tance education students.

 

Moreover, academy Yan Aung, academy May Than Nu, academy Soe Myat Thuzar, Dein Daung, Ohn Thee, Nyein Chan, Yin Latt, Thinzar Myintmo, Nay Chi Nyein Chan and other ar­tistes currently in Loikaw host­ed entertainment programmes together with the local artistes at night.

 

The departmental of­ficials and locals partici­pated in the event happily. In Loikaw, due to security condi­tions at the end of 2023, the dis­tribution of electricity in urban areas was suspended. However, starting from May 2024, power distribution was gradually ex­panded with proper arrange­ments. At present, 20 downtown wards and 23 surrounding villag­es of Loikaw are receiving a full 24-hour electricity supply. The officials are continuing efforts to increase electricity generation and integrate it into the national grid. — MNA/KTZH
