THE event commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War will take place in Beijing on 3 September, and the rehearsals for the upcoming military parade in Tian’anmen Square are basically complete, according to the press conference held at the Media Centre Hotel yesterday.
The parade will feature a wide range of weapons and equipment and the Chinese military’s recent advancements in modernization and enhanced combat readiness, said Major-General Wu Zeke, Deputy Director of the Leading Group Office of Military Parade and Deputy Director-General of the Operations Bureau of the Joint Staff Department of the Central Military Commission.
The theme of the commemoration is to remember history, honour the fallen heroes, cherish peace and create a better future, said Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Mr Hong Lei.
A total of 26 foreign heads of state and government of Russia, North Korea, Cambodia, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan and Myanmar will attend the event.
The participation of Parliament leaders, Deputy Prime Ministers and high-ranking officials and representatives of organizations shows three distinct features: their high-ranking positions, the participation of government and civil society representatives with strong representation from the five continents across the world and a wide scope of cooperation, added the Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister.
A gala at the Great Hall of the People will be held on the evening of 3 September as part of the victory anniversary events. — Khin Yadana/KTZH
