Amarapura, 5 September
A fish restocking ceremony was held at 8 a.m. today near Panchan-2 in Shwe Kyet Yet Village Tract, Amarapura Township, Mandalay Region, as part of ongoing efforts to replenish fish stocks in the Irrawaddy River.
The event was attended by 45 participants, including U Htay Min, Staff Officer of the Amarapura District Fisheries Department, Major Kyaw Tay Za, Member-1 of the Township Management and Administration Committee, as well as other departmental personnel.
During the ceremony, a total of 700,000 fingerlings were released into the river to support sustainable fisheries and enhance biodiversity. The release included: 400,000 rohu fingerlings, 150,000 Thai swamp barb fingerlings, 100,000 Cyprinus fingerlings. The fingerlings were supplied by the Thayetgon and Natyekan fishery stations.
This initiative aims to strengthen the river’s ecosystem and ensure the long-term viability of local fisheries, contributing to food security and the livelihoods of communities that depend on the Irrawaddy River.— Soe Thiha (Amara)
