THE Myanmar delegation, led by U Naing Min Kyaw, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, at­tended the 15th Summit of the Global Forum on Migration and Development, held in Riohacha, Colombia, on 2-4 September 2025. The summit focused on issues related to migration and development.

 

The delegation led by the Deputy Minister attended the opening ceremony of the forum on its first day (2 September), as well as participated in the expert-level panel discussions under the themes “Striking a New Deal on Pathways: Align­ing Priorities for Countries of Destination and Origin” and “Durable Solutions to Internal Displacement.” On the second day of the forum (3 Septem­ber), the delegation attended expert-level panel discussions under the themes “Care Work in Migration: Recognition, Ad­vocacy, and Progress on Global and Regional Migration” and “Restoration of Rights as the Cornerstone for a Dignified Re­turn.” On the third day of the forum (4 September), the dele­gation attended the “Future of the Forum” session as well as the closing ceremony.

 

At the opening ceremony of the forum, Mr Gustavo Pet­ro, President of Colombia, and Mrs Rosa Yolanda Villavicen­cio Mapy, Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended and delivered opening remarks. Representa­tives from 69 countries, along with 73 delegations from the United Nations, international organizations, and research in­stitutions, approximately 1,200 people participated in the event.

 

The forum was organized to promote transparency in migra­tion and development issues and to foster mutual dialogue and collaboration between govern­ments and non-governmental organizations through construc­tive policy discussions.

 

At the stopover in France, the deputy minister for Foreign Affairs visited the Myanmar Em­bassy in Paris. Following a tour of the embassy, he met the em­bassy staff and gave necessary guidance. — MNA
