Thongwa, 24 September
A cervical cancer vaccination campaign for schoolgirls aged 9 and 10 was held yesterday at 10:00 a.m. at the hall of B.E.H.S.-1 in Thongwa Township, Thanlyin District in Yangon Region.
At the event, Daw Thet Thaw Myint from the Township Public Health Department explained that the HPV vaccine, Gardasil—recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO)—is safe and effective in preventing cervical cancer, the fourth most common cancer among women worldwide.
A total of 84 students from B.E.H.S.-1 received the vaccine. Similar school- and community-based vaccinations are ongoing in urban and rural areas. Authorities urged school principals to register eligible students to ensure no one is left out.— Sithu Lin (IPRD)
