The Forest Department under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation continues to step up its crackdown on illegal timber trade through various measures, including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS) in cooperation with local communities.
Between 6 and 12 October, a total of 18.59 tons of illegal timber were seized across the Nay Pyi Taw Council area and various states and regions. The haul included 10.42 tons of teak, 1.61 tons of hardwood, and 6.56 tons of other wood types.
Authorities also confiscated five vehicles and machinery used in illegal logging operations, and seven suspects were arrested in connection with the cases.— MNA
