Haul of drugs confiscated in Maungtaw, Rakhine State

The security personnel from No 1 Checkpoint in Maungtaw on patrol along the Naf River found a suspicious boat heading towards Bangladesh. They signaled the boat for inspection but it fled. The authorities chased the boat and managed to arrest two men along with two white gunny sacks which were believed to be filled with drugs close to the U Saw Hla island.

The two men were identified as Nawbi Ula, 26, son of Abhu Zawli from Zwenyotaung Village and Mohamad Zubai, 24, son of Ana Wamusafa from Aukpyuma Village.

The authorities opened the white gunny sacks which contain 155610 WY/brand stimulant tablets worth over K 311.22 million.

It was revealed that the drug owners are Kefawbulah, 23, son of Zawfawlamauk and Shawfiramauk, 28, son of Goramya, who gave Bangladeshi Taka 10000 each to the Nawbi Ula and Mohamad Zubai for sending the drugs to an unidentified man in Zatipara Viallage, Tekanet Township, Bangladesh.—Thet Lwin Soe, Township IPRD
