Myanmar attends 23rd ASEAN subcommittee meeting on information in Hanoi

THE 23rd ASEAN Subcommittee Meeting on Information- 23rd SCI Meeting was held in Hanoi, Viet Nam, yesterday morning. The delegation led by Director-General U Ye Naing of Myanma Radio and Television of the Ministry of Information participated in the discussion. Myanmar representatives from Nay Pyi Taw-Tatkon and Yangon also attended the meeting online.

 

The meeting was attended by Director-General Mr Trieu Minh Long of the International Cooperation Department of Viet Nam and alternate Chair of the ASEAN Subcommittee on Information (SCI) and officials, and officials from the ASEAN member states at the level of the director-general for information and subject matter experts.

 

Discussions focused on the ASEAN Cultural Fund budget for the future activities of the ASEAN information sector, coordination of financial procedures related to information sector projects, explanation of the countries that want to implement new projects, and the selection of the country to hold the next SCI Meeting.

 

Myanmar discussed the completion status of the 10th ASEAN Quiz Competition (National-Level) in each member state, which has been implemented by Myanma Radio and Television as a project proponent on behalf of the SCI, and explained Myanmar’s preparation for the 10th ASEAN Quiz (Regional-Level), including the Game Plan.

 

The delegation also shared the update information about the ASEAN News Exchange Initiatives project, RISE ASEAN Project, and ASEAN Creative Film Response on COVID-19 Project with other SCI representatives and explained the concept note of the Sustainable ASEAN MSMEs Project to be implemented by MITV as the second project of SCI-Myanmar.

 

The main purpose of the ASEAN Subcommittee Meetings on Information is to strengthen mutual understanding and trust among member countries through ASEAN regional media and to implement ASEAN projects. The meetings are annually chaired by the ASEAN member states under the rotating chairmanship system. The meetings were held online in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 outbreak, and this 23rd meeting was being re-convened as a physical meeting which was attended by the representatives from the member countries.—MNA
