According to the Department of Archaeology and National Museum (Pyay branch), between 30 and 100 people visit the ancient city of Beikthano and the Beikthano Museum daily.
Visitors wishing to observe the ancient buildings, artistic antique jewellery, and city gates and walls must visit the ancient Beikthano city and the museum some 12 miles west of Taungdwingyi, Magway Region.
On display at the museum are artefacts from the Stone Age, Bronze Age, and Iron Age, as well as archaeological finds from the ancient city of Beikthano, such as gold coins, earthen and stone beads, copper containers, one small copper Buddha statue, and one copper bell.
The ancient city of Beikthano and Beikthano Museum, listed as a World Heritage Site, are open daily from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm except on Mondays and public holidays. It is a place worth visiting, and domestic visitors can observe the ancient buildings, gold coins, beads, artistic antique jewellery, city entrance archways, and walls free of charge. — ASH/TMT
