Following heavy rains that caused the Kalaw Creek to overflow and flood low-lying areas, Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Aung, accompanied by the State Minister for Economic Affairs and other officials visited Kalaw yesterday to assess the situation.
The Chief Minister inspected the situation of the creek near Inpyin Agricultural Park, flood-affected areas in Ward 2, and garbage blockages under the Kalaw Creek Bridge. He also visited Kalaw Railway Station and the site for the future Township Information and Public Relations Department office, providing necessary instructions.
At Kalaw No. 1 Basic Education High School, he observed flood damage and ongoing cleanup efforts. He also ordered road widening near Sutaung Pyay Pagoda and the relocation of communication poles obstructing the road.
Cash rewards were presented to the Tatmadaw, Fire Brigade, and militia forces for their relief efforts. The Chief Minister concluded his visit at Aung Chan Pariyatti Monastery and Tha Mai Kham Dam in Aung Pan. Floodwaters began receding in the evening.— Maung Maung Than (Taunggyi)
