The third fish planting ceremony was held yesterday morning at the Kyarni Lake drainage near the Thanlyin-Thongwa-Kayan Road in Thanlyin Township, Yangon Region. Organized by the Yangon Region Government, the event aims to sustainably boost local fish resources.

Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, regional ministers, departmental officials, students from Twantay Fisheries Institute, and members of the public attended the ceremony. Regional Minister for Economic Affairs U Myo Myint Aung delivered opening remarks, followed by an explanation of the program’s goals by Fisheries Department Head U Than Chaung.

Participants, including U Soe Thein and his team, released 300,000 two-inch fingerlings into the drainage. To date, a total of 6.67 million fish—including rohu, cyprinus, and swamp barb—have been stocked in designated areas.—Zwe Htet Ko (IPRD)
