UNION Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung inspected the quake-related practical rescue operation exercises performed by 100 members of the special task force of the Fire Services Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs for 12 weeks (from 12 May to 1 August) at Bala Theikdi Ward in Zabuthiri Township yesterday.

The 12-week exercise was conducted aiming to form a Medium Urban Search and Rescue Team.

Moreover, it is also carried out to enable fire fighters to effectively conduct timely and effective search and rescue operations in case of earthquake-related disaster, particularly in situations like building collapses, carry out standard search and rescue techniques like the international urban search and rescue teams and establish the Medium Urban Search and Rescue Team as per the standards of International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG).

The trainees performed shoring techniques, rope rescue techniques and breaking and breeching techniques at the event. — MNA/KTZH
