The Forest Department under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation is continuing its crackdown on illegal timber trade through various enforcement measures, including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS), in collaboration with local communities.
According to reports from the Nay Pyi Taw Council area as well as state and regional forest departments, a total of 98.11 tons of illegal timber were seized between 28 July and 3 August. The confiscated timber includes 50.26 tons of teak, 12.87 tons of hardwood, and 34.97 tons of other types of wood.
As part of the operation, authorities also impounded eight vehicles and pieces of machinery used in illegal logging activities and detained 12 individuals in connection with the seizures, according to the Forest Department.—MNA
