The Region Fisheries Department held a fish stocking ceremony at Ma-U Creek in Dagon Myothit (Eastern) Township, Yangon Region at 8:30 a.m. on 12 August. The fingerlings used for the event were supplied by the Hlawga and Lay Duntkan Fisheries Stations.

U Than Chaung, Head of the Region Fisheries Department, attended the ceremony along with district-level officials, members of the Township Management and Administration Committee, the Deputy Township Administrator, township-level departmental staff, and personnel from the Department of Irrigation and Water Utilization Management and the Department of Fisheries.

During the ceremony, various fish species were released into Ma-U Creek with the aim of promoting the sustainable development of the fisheries sector, ensuring fish-based food security, supporting the socio-economic development of rural communities, and contributing to the broader economic development of the country.

A total of 880,000 fingerlings were released, including 40,000 swamp barbs and 840,000 rohu.—Than Htay
