A high number of day-trippers visiting destinations around Yangon during the weekends has been seen, according to the tourism community.

Although the rainy season is not as busy as the open season, there are still many visitors making day trips around Yangon on weekends and public holidays.

"Beach trips are rare in the rainy season. Many people prefer visiting places with little rain or nearby sites where they can return within a day. These trips include Bago, Taikkyi, Hmawby, Zalun, and Kyaiktiyo. The weather is nice and the scenery is beautiful in the rainy season, so people go on a relaxing trip to experience the wild nature", said a tour operator.

Some tours are made after communicating with travel agencies, and some people make a train journey with friends.

"It was fun to visit together with friends and take the train to Bago. In Bago, we paid a pilgrimage tour to pagodas, had various local snacks, and went around in the city. In the rainy season, it is green and wet, the fields are lush, so it's very relaxing," said one traveller.

Despite being less active in the rainy season, the high tour season is usually during Thadingyut holidays, and it is expected that tourism will be increased again in the next dry season. — MT/ZN
