A ceremony to distribute cash assistance to families affected by the 5 August landslide—triggered by heavy rain and soil erosion—was held yesterday afternoon at the Township General Administration Department Hall in Thandaunggyi Township, Kayin State.
The event was opened by Township Administrator U San Bo, who delivered remarks outlining the government's response and support for the victims. As part of the relief program, seven families whose homes were completely destroyed received Ks 850,000 worth of household items each, along with seven boxes containing 16 types of essential relief goods.
An additional Ks 50,000 was provided for building materials to repair a partially damaged house. Families also received Ks 20,000 for rice and daily rations. For the eight individuals who lost their lives, each family received Ks 300,000, totaling Ks 2.4 million. In total, Ks 3.4 million was disbursed to families of the deceased.
All funds and supplies were formally handed over by the Township Administrator to the affected individuals and families.— Naw Naw Mu
