Rising water levels in the Irrawaddy River have forced the evacuation of over 60 households in Minbu (Saku) Township, Magway Region, according to the Township Disaster Management Team.
A total of 221 residents and their livestock from Hto Makyi village have been relocated to temporary relief camps in Kyauk Kone, Petaw Monastery, Auk Kyaung Pagoda, and Thankandan-7. Relief efforts, including food distribution and registration of displaced families, are ongoing.
As of 6:30 p.m. on August 20, the Irrawaddy River measured 1507 cm—193 cm below the danger level of 1700 cm. The affected areas are known to flood annually during the rainy season. This marks the second time the river has risen this season.— Maung Maung (Minbu)
