THE Myanmar delegation, led by Union Minister and Union Attorney-General Dr Thida Oo, attended the 15th China-ASEAN Prosecutors-General Conference held in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Peo­ple’s Republic of China, from 22 to 24 September.

 

The Conference was held under the theme “Combating Money Laundering and Corrup­tion and Recovering Assets in the Technology Era.”

 

The Union minister and Un­ion Attorney-General remarked that the conference serves as an important platform for promoting international legal cooperation and addressing transnational criminal issues. She noted that legal cooperation is necessary not only among ASEAN Member States but also between China and ASEAN Member States to implement the conference’s theme.

 

She stated that the govern­ment works with international and regional anti-corruption or­ganizations to fight against trans­national money laundering and anti-corruption, and implements the National Strategy for Com­bating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing (2024-2028), and also organized the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

 

The government tackled the transnational financial fraud and online scam through close col­laboration with China, Laos and Thailand, and fully participated in primary steps of ASLOM such as AET and ACCPCJ.

 

She signed the Joint Decla­ration of the 15th China-ASEAN Prosecutors-General Confer­ence together with the Prose­cutors-General.

 

The Myanmar delegation also met with Chinese Prosecu­tor-General Mr Ying Yong and discussed further cooperation in legal affairs.

 

By signing the joint state­ment of the 15th China-ASEAN Prosecutors-General Confer­ence, ASEAN member countries can enhance cooperation in the use of technology to combat money laundering and corrup­tion, strengthen mutual trust and friendship among ASEAN member states, improve collab­oration between the offices of prosecutors-general in China and ASEAN countries, and promote friendly relations with China. — MNA/KTZH
