BOTH state-owned and private media warmly welcome the appointment of newly graduated medical doctors and dental surgeons as civil servant gazette officers as newly-recruited healthcare personnel of the Ministry of Health.
It is certain that those newcomers will be reliable for the health sector of Myanmar with greater efforts to provide healthcare services to the national brethren across the nation. They have graduated from medical universities and dental universities. Hence, the young and active surgeons are now ready to expedite their relentless efforts to serve the interests of the people.
Various reasons pose a weakness to the health sector of the country. As a result, surgeons and health staff at different levels who are loyal to the State and the people have experienced struggling to carry out healthcare activities for the people despite a smaller number of staff at hospitals and clinics.
Not only the COVID-19 pandemic but also other natural disasters and armed conflicts, in addition to the bad consequences of social and economic sectors, severely impacted the healthcare systems of all countries, including Myanmar. As such, taking a valuable lesson from these incidents, Myanmar needs to make good preparations for the health sector with the readiness of surgeons and health staff to perform healthcare services for the people at all times.
In carrying out public healthcare services, the government is implementing effective policies and plans based on the nation’s resources to focus on preventive measures to avoid the outbreak of diseases and to ensure the provision of quality medical treatment when illnesses do occur. To enable the public to receive healthcare in a peaceful and comfortable environment, the government is prioritizing the renovation and construction of public hospitals, disease detection and advanced treatment services, and the consistent supply of medicines and modern medical equipment.
As a reinforcement of the health sector, to produce highly qualified human resources, a total of 53 institutions — including relevant universities, the University of Community Health, the University of Public Health, traditional medicine universities, as well as nursing and midwifery training schools — have been opened. Their curricula have been revised and updated according to current needs and are being actively taught.
Those already appointed gazette officer surgeons have to take up their duties at various hospitals, to provide medical care and treatment to the public with their full physical and intellectual capacity, and have to try hard to become exemplary healthcare professionals who serve in the best interest of the nation.
