Pwintbyu, 28 July
Pwintbyu Township in the Magway Region has surpassed its rainy season pigeon pea cultivation target, according to the Township Agriculture Department.
The township had planned to cultivate 5,914 acres of pigeon peas during the rainy season, with planting beginning in June. As of now, 6,069 acres have been planted, exceeding the initial target.
To help farmers improve their yields, the Township Agriculture Department is conducting field visits and offering guidance on selecting quality seeds, expanding cultivated areas, adopting Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), and managing pests and diseases effectively.
“If pigeon pea yields can be increased, it will not only meet local consumption needs but also boost farmers’ incomes through surplus sales, thereby improving their socio-economic conditions. Therefore, efforts should be made to expand pigeon pea cultivation across all areas,” said Daw Moe Moe Wai, staff officer of the Township Agriculture Department.— Hlaing Win Lay (Pwintbyu Myay)
