Ngape, 13 August
Ngape Township in Minbu District, Magway Region, has planted 7,334 out of the targeted 10,200 acres of rain-fed paddy for the 2025 season, according to the Township Settlement and Land Records Department.
Farmers have cultivated high-yielding rice varieties, including 2,268 acres of Manaw Thukha, 1,986 acres of Sin Thukha, 2,511 acres of Eyeyamin, and smaller areas of other varieties. They aim to exceed the target, as they did last year when yields reached 84.51 baskets per acre.
This year’s cultivation is supported by water sources such as the Mannchaung and Yinshee reservoirs, small dams and ponds, and hillside areas. Farmers are receiving quality seeds, inputs, and training on good agricultural practices, with field staff providing guidance on pest and disease control.— Ma Yu (Ngape)
