The death toll in the landslide that occurred near the Mata Vaishnodevi shrine in Indian-controlled Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday crossed 30, confirmed local officials on Wednesday.
More than 20 injured people were admitted to different hospitals.
The landslide had struck the Ardhkuwari area near the shrine amid incessant rains. Following the tragedy, the pilgrimage to the shrine had been halted.
Many trains to and from the Katra area near the shrine were cancelled, resulting in a large number of pilgrims remaining stuck in Katra.
Most parts of Indian-controlled Jammu and Kashmir received heavy to very heavy rains over the past couple of days. Many roads and bridges were washed away, and rivers flowed close to the danger mark. TV reports showed a bridge collapsing over the Tawi River with cars plying over it.
Due to incessant rains, power supply was cut in many areas for more than 36 hours. Mobile and internet services were also adversely affected.
