Pwintbyu, 3 September
Pwintbyu Township in Minbu District, Magway Region plans to plant 15,742 acres of sesame crop during the upcoming winter crop season, according to the Township Agriculture Department.
The Township Agriculture Department had set a target of 15,742 acres of sesame crop for oilseed cultivation in the upcoming winter season, and planting is scheduled to begin October.
The Township earmarked to plant 34,951 acres of oilseed crops, including sesame, in the upcoming winter crop planting season. To support the expansion of oilseed cultivation and improve per-acre yields, the Department of Agriculture is working closely with local farmers. Training and guidance will be provided on selecting suitable high-yield varieties crops, implementing Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), and managing pests and crop diseases effectively.
“If sesame can be cultivated with good yields and quality, it will not only meet local demand for cooking oil, but also generate income from surplus sales and help improve the socio-economic conditions of local communities. Therefore, efforts should be made to further expand sesame cultivation in the Township,” said an official from the department.— Hlaing Win Lay (Pwintbyu Myay)
