Pwintbyu, 9 September

Pwintbyu Township in the Magway Region has successfully completed the harvest of 8,640 acres of sesame cultivated during this year’s rainy season, according to the Township Agriculture Department.

Out of a total of 24,065 acres planted, harvesting began in the second week of August. So far, 8,640 acres have been harvested, with an average yield of 9.42 baskets of sesame per acre.

Officials from the Township Agriculture Department have collaborated with relevant departments to support local sesame farmers throughout the season. Efforts focused on improving cultivation techniques, managing pests and diseases, and providing field-level training on the timely application of fertilizers and agricultural inputs.

“If the yield and quality of sesame can be enhanced, it will not only meet local consumption needs but also generate income through surplus sales,” said Daw Moe Moe Wai, Staff Officer of the Township Agriculture Department. “This will contribute to better livelihoods and promote socio-economic development. Therefore, efforts should be made to expand sesame cultivation in the township.”— Hlaing Win Lay (Pwintbyu Myay)
