IN accordance with the objectives of the National Defence and Security Council, preparations are underway for the Multiparty Democratic General Election to be held on 28 December 2025, in which elections for various Hluttaws will take place. The preparatory processes include compilation and announcement of voter lists, submission, scrutiny, and announcement of candidate lists, as well as other necessary election-related procedures.
Elections are an essential function of a democratic system in a country. The electoral system adopted by a country plays a crucial role in shaping its future and political image. As elections and the electoral system are vital processes for the State and citizens, all citizens have to participate in the electoral process.
The Union Election Commission announced that for the upcoming General Election to be held on 28 December 2025, the voter lists will be displayed for the first time for 14 days from 30 September to 134 October at respective areas. In places where voter lists cannot be displayed due to various circumstances, arrangements will be made for voters to check the lists at the respective township sub-commission offices. During the announcement period, voters must check their names on the voter lists in order to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the lists.
According to the UEC, voters may submit Form 3 to add their names to the voter list if their names are missing, Form 4 to remove names of those who should not be included, and Form 4-C to correct errors in the list. These forms can be obtained free of charge from relevant sub-commission offices. After these processes, the final voter list for the 2025 General Election will be displayed in November 2025. During this period, voters may submit requests for additions, removals, or corrections as necessary.
Eligible citizens must exercise their voting rights in the election by casting their ballots correctly and choosing qualified candidates who can represent the nation and the people. Only through the active participation of the people can elections be successfully held, thereby contributing to the emergence of a peaceful, stable, and genuinely democratic nation that can move forward in development.
That is why, in order to ensure that the voter list is complete and accurate, it is important for all eligible citizens to carefully check the voter lists displayed at their respective sub-commission offices. Each household is urged to have at least one member review the lists, and if necessary, submit corrections or additions in accordance with the procedures.
