Shwedaung, 8 October

A fire broke out around 6:50 p.m. yesterday in Shyadaing Village, Shwedaung Township, Bago Region, destroying two houses.

The fire started when a candle fell during a Thadingyut oil lamp offering ceremony at the home of U Aung Myint. The flames quickly spread to nearby clothing and then to the neighboring house of U Myint Oo, located to the west.

Firefighters, led by Township Fire Services Department Chief U Thet Paing Htun and supervised by U Han Win Aung, Chairman of the Township Management and Administration Committee, extinguished the blaze by 8:05 p.m. using three fire engines. They were assisted by auxiliary firefighters, staff from the General Administration Department, local police, social organizations, and villagers.

No injuries to people or animals were reported. The affected families have been relocated to stay with nearby relatives.

U Aung Myint has been arrested and charged at Nyaung Sar Police Station for negligence leading to the fire.— Ko Ko Min (IPRD)
